In German nomenclature, it is known as Es, sometimes (especially in the context of musical motifs, e.g. See pitch (music) for a discussion of historical variations in frequency. When calculated in equal temperament with a reference of A above middle C as 440 Hz, the frequency of the E ♭ above middle C (or E ♭ 4) is approximately 311.127 Hz. Along with the Major 7 and Dominant 7 chords, the minor 7 chord is one of the most common 7th chords in all of music. The minor 7 chord in general is a very common and popular chord. This chord diagram uses one of the more common bar chord voicings. E ♭ is a perfect fourth above B ♭, whereas D ♯ is a major third above B. The E flat minor 7 chord (Ebm7) is an E flat minor chord (Eb Gb Bb) with the ‘flat 7’ of the E flat Major scale included (Db). Here is a shape for the D sharp / E flat minor guitar chord. The E-flat minor chord is a minor triad, or a three-note chord in a minor key, and plays a role in songs written in G-flat major. However, in some temperaments, D ♯ is not the same as E ♭. In equal temperament it is also enharmonic with F (F-double flat). It lies a diatonic semitone above D and a chromatic semitone below E, thus being enharmonic to D ♯ ( D-sharp) or re dièse. E ♭ ( E-flat) or mi bémol is the fourth semitone of the solfège.
